Finnish startup company EHO Textiles, founded this year, has been named the most promising startup at the recently concluded Upgraded Life Festival, the largest health startup and innovations event in the Nordics.

The Helsinki based company uses special technology for producing smart garments and wearables for people with movement disability. These wearables help in body motion monitoring and for selecting more effective exercise and rehabilitation process, Labs of Latvia reported.

Pressure and tension sensors developed by EHO Textiles are original knitted structures that “feel” changes in pressure and tension. These sensors can be embedded in fabric with the help of knitting machines, in a manner that look like design patterns, thus making them an integral part of a sock or any other article of clothing.

The sensors are easy to adapt to any given size, model or shape of clothing, the report said.

The company was set up after a lengthy research study into smart textiles carried out by two Riga Technical University (RTU) scientists—professor Aleksejs Kataševs from Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Nanotechnologies and Institute of Design Technologies research fellow Aleksandrs Okss.

The EHO Textiles team also includes three others with experience in product development, project management and business development. (RKS)
