The government of Queensland in Australia will not be compensating veterinarians for protective clothing, Agriculture Minister Tim Mulherin said in the Queensland Parliament.

The issue was raised by the Opposition in the context of potentially deadly hendra virus outbreaks.

The Minister said that people in the veterinary profession need to procure protective equipment at their own cost, which can later be passed on to horse owners.

He further concluded that it is not feasible for the government to provide personal protective clothing for every occupation.
