German Multiline Group to invest in Bangladesh garment sector

German conglomerate Multiline Group has articulated its interest in investing US$ 200 billion in garment and leather industries in Bangladesh, Bangladesh Commerce Minister Faruk Khan has said.

Multiline is one of the world's largest fashion producers, supplying to all leading corporate groups in Europe.

At the end of his eight-day visit to Germany, the Minister stated that during his visit to the European country, he met representatives of several German garment firms and the German government.

He said that Germany has shown keen interest to increase its imports from Bangladesh and also to invest more in the country's readymade garments, jute and leather sectors, in view of the quality and services offered by Bangladeshi exporters.

Germany is the second-biggest importer of garments from Bangladesh, with the Asian country shipping garments worth US$ 4 billion to Germany.

The Minister revealed that Germany has asked Bangladesh to improve its communications infrastructure and also to work towards ensuring uninterrupted power and gas supply.

He assured that there has been an improvement in power and gas supply condition in Bangladesh since the present Government assumed charge. He further apprised them about the discovery of a new gas reserve.
