The time limit for readymade garment (RMG) items meant for exports to reach the containerised berths at Bangladesh's Chittagong Port has been relaxed to 8:00 a.m. on the day when the concerned ship is scheduled to arrive.

Earlier, the goods were required to reach the Port at least 24 hours in advance of the arrival of the ship at the Port.

Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Chairman Commodore Anwarul Islam said the decision was taken after garment exporters under the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) made requests to initiate steps to facilitate speedy clearance of shipment formalities.

Post announcement, all the RMG exporters have been brought under the newly launched Container Terminal Management System (CTMS) and all containerised import and export goods are now required to pass through the new CTMS at the Chittagong Port.
