Kyrgyz garment production grows fivefold

The garment industry of Kyrgyzstan produced goods worth 6 billion soms last year, a five-fold increase in production over previous years' figures, according to Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev.

Inaugurating the VI international fair “Fashion Industry: Products and Equipment-2012”, the President informed that Kyrgyzstan's apparel exports increased ten-fold in 2011.

The President said the Government will support the country's clothing sector. He added that Kyrgyzstan's joining the CIS Customs Union consisting of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, will further boost Kyrgyz's light industry, including the garment sector.

More than 150,000 people in Kyrgyzstan are engaged in textile and garment industries, according to Askarbek Shadiyev, Minister of Energy and Industry.
