Garment Park to boost Textile industry

West Bengal government has planned to establish a Garment Park to expand garment, hosiery and apparel industry in the state, at a total cost of Rs 45 crore by 2007.

West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) Chairman and state Industries Minister Nirupam Sen informed newsmen about acquisition of 8.5 hectares land for garment park and appointment of WBIDC and ICICI Winfra, as Project Consultant.

Garment Park will have a Standard Design Factory (SDF), and a Common Facilities Building (CFB) for common service and logistic support units for the manufacturers.

Sen said about 70 manufacturing units would be allocated space in first phase of the project, and 100 more units would be accommodated on completion of phase two there by generating employment for 8,000 workers.

First phase was likely to be completed by September 2007.

The WBIDC Chairman informed about garment and hosiery manufacturing associations inquiring for booking space at SDF building.
