US public schools bring uniforms back in vogue

More and more number of American public schools are implementing the idea of neat and crisply ironed school uniforms these days.

Endorsed by former President Bill Clinton in the 90s, the numbers of uniformed public school students in the US have currently risen to nearly 12.5 million, forming about one-fifth of the total students attending public schools.

The US school administrators are supporting the idea of students wearing uniforms in educational institutions, because it maintains discipline, reduces classroom distractions and prevents children from becoming fashion victims.

In today’s brand conscious world, children belonging to less-privileged households are often picked on by their more privileged counterparts because of their low-priced or unbranded clothes. But, creating a universal dress code for all the students can protect these children from being bullied by others.

The rising popularity of uniforms has motivated various US-based school uniform manufacturers to revamp the plain looking outfit to suit the style-conscious generation’s tastes.

Hence, a variety of  designs are being offered in school uniforms these days, such as stretch tops and straight-leg pants for girls and button-down Oxfords made of technically advanced, moisture-proof fabrics for boys.
