State Conference of the Tamil Nadu Tailoring Employees Association (TNTEA) will be organized on February 27.
The association wants that Centre and State Government should implement Tailoring Employees Social Security Act, informed T V S Mani, General Secretary of association.
Government should also set up a board for the welfare of tailoring employees; the board should provide pension, free medical facility and family assistance to employees above 60 years of age.
Mani said there were 20 lakh tailoring employees all over Tamil Nadu with most of them struggling to make their both ends meet due to the dominance of readymade garments.
The association also plans to request the government to offer electricity at concessional rates to tailoring shops and give contracts for stitching school uniforms to women members of the association, Mani added.
