Shahbaz Sharif seeks proposal for garment park in Lahore

Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province has invited proposal from concerned quarters for setting up a garment industrial estate in Lahore.
 
During a meeting with delegation of Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA), Mr. Sharif said a modern garment industrial estate near Lahore should be considered in order to boost apparel exports.
 
He also directed the authorities to draft a five-year plan to increase clothing exports and develop the sector, after meeting with the PRGMEA delegation led by its central chairman Sajid Saleem Minhas, The Nation reported.
 
The PRGMEA office bearers submitted various proposals related to skilled workforce, logistic support, import policy, etc. for development of the apparel industry.
 
The Chief Minister formed a core group headed by adviser Dr. ijaz Nabi. The group will consult various stakeholders and will submit recommendations for the promotion of export of garments within a month’s time.
 
Mr. Sharif assured PRGMEA officials that his government is taking adequate measures to resolve energy and other problems of the garment and textile industry.
 
The delegation apprised the CM about the vast potential for exports of garments, and especially mentioned China as a big market for Pakistani clothing. However, to increase the exports proper policy measure need to be implemented.
