In the next five years Peruvian apparel brands could be considered as a benchmark of international fashion, known for the quality of its designs, according to Apparel Committee chairman of the Association of Exporters (ADEX), Pedro Gamio.

Mr. Gamio said the country has a tradition of making garments which are inspired by the ancient pre-Inca cultures which predisposes the garment industry to develop into an advanced sector, reports Peruvian newspaper El Peruano.

The exports of Peruvian local branded garments and couture collections, through the efforts of young designers and upcoming entrepreneurs, now represent 10 percent of the total apparel exports from the country, he added.

The ADEX official said that if the momentum of growth in the exports of local branded apparel from the country is maintained then within five years Peruvian brands will be recognized in the international markets.

In this regard, Mr. Gamio said another factor that contributes towards the recognition of Peruvian brands in international markets is the campaign Brand Peru which has widely impacted the promotion of non-traditional Peruvian products, especially amongst world-renowned designers.
