Australian-based international sportswear manufacturer KooGa has recently opened its new plant in the second-largest city of Lautoka in Fiji, employing over 120 local people.

The international sportswear brand took nearly 12 months to establish the plant, which was planned to be set up in October 2012.

Kim Brant, chief executive officer of KooGa, said the new plant has been opened up in Fiji as it was becoming very expensive to manufacture in Australia and Fiji is located very close to the headquarters, reports Fiji Sun.

Lautoka is famous for its textile industry, there are lots of skilled people here and it is closer to the port as well as the airport, he added.

Last month, after an initial investment of 1.5 million Fiji dollars, the KooGa firm set to recruiting talented Fijians to be part of the sportswear manufacturing plant.

Mr. Brant said the entire workforce at the plant would be Fijians as he intends it to be that way, and the company also plans to get into a partnership with a denim manufacturer, in order to acquire sewing machineries for the new plant.
