The Mexican apparel industry has to adapt with the changing times, as the process of manufacturing in the apparel sector has undergone a complete revolution and the apparel industry of the country has to accustom itself to these changes, said the National Chamber of Apparel Industry (CANAIVE) president Sergio Lopez De La Serda.

According to a statement issued by CANAIVE, Mr. Sergio Lopez was speaking at the 37th National Congress of the Garment Industry of Mexico, which was held recently at the capital city of Merida in the Mexican state of Yucatan.

The CANAIVE official said that the apparel industry is the most innovative sector which promotes fashion as well as generates employment in the country.

At the congress, Mr. Sergio Lopez urged the Governor of Yucatan, Rolando Zapata, to pay more attention towards the apparel sector of the state as it creates nearly 14,000 direct and 40,000 indirect jobs in the region.

The CANAIVE president also informed that the National Center for Innovation Textile-Apparel, which is being constructed in the city of Pachuca in the Mexican state of Hidalgo, will begin operations by the second half of 2014.

Mr. Ildefonso Guajardo, secretary of Mexico’s Ministry of Economy, highlighted the importance of the apparel industry’s contribution towards the growth of the country’s economy, while speaking at the congress.

The exports from the apparel sector of the country grew by 3.1 percent in the first half of 2013, compared to the same period last year, he added.

During the two-day congress, held under the theme ‘Time of Change/Changing times’, attendees got the opportunity to gain information regarding the efficient process of the entire value chain, review the current situation of the apparel sector, exchange information regarding alternatives to increase sales through different channels as well as discuss the prospects of a newer and innovative apparel sector for the country.
