Bangladesh PM assures maintaining security of RMG industry

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has assured businessmen of maintaining security of the country’s readymade garment (RMG) industry, Atiqul Islam, president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) told reporters after a meeting with the PM, BSS reported.
 
Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) led the 22-member business delegation, which met the PM, in the aftermath of the fire incident at the Standards Group apparel factory.
 
Representatives of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), Bangladesh Textiles Mills Association (BTMA) and Dhaka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), were also among the delegation that met the Prime Minister and requested to ensure security of garment manufacturing units in the country.
 
The businessmen told the Prime Minister that at present there is no security of the garment industry, to which the PM gave an assurance of providing security to the industry, Mr. Islam said.
 
Afterwards, the delegation also met the leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia.
