Experts from the International Trade Center (ITC) are conducting a new study to explore availability of financial resources in Tajikistan for setting up of small and medium-sized garment and textile enterprises in the country.

According to the ITC Tajikistan website, the ITC project aims to examine possibilities and availabilities of financial services and tools to establish textile and clothing manufacturing centers in the country.

The Expert Group from ITC visited several textiles and clothing units in Tajikistan to assess the financial situation of these units, develop recommendations and options related to improvement of access of financial resources to these units.

Saidmumin Kamolov, national program manager of ITC in Tajikistan, said access of finance is one of the most trivial challenges faced by the textile and clothing enterprises in the country, and the study is planned to evaluate the financial services and tools that are available to small and medium-sized enterprises in Tajikistan.

The study aims to identify the issues faced by the sector in the context of access to financial resources and services as well as instruments provided by financial institutions in the country for the development of the sector, he added.

The ITC official informed that the agenda behind the study is to provide a regulatory framework conducive to improving access of finance for small and medium-sized units in the sector, as well as identify the main barriers and assess potential financial institutions in Tajikistan that could help improve access of financial tools to these units.

The research is being conducted under the framework of ITC, and is being funded by the Swiss Government under the aegis of cooperation in the field of trade in Tajikistan.
