Clothing retail sales improve in 2006

In January-November 2006, the improvement of China's total retail sales of clothing consumer goods registered year-on-year rise of 21.5 percent. Social retail sales of consumer goods totaled 7.641 trillion yuan, up 13.7 percent over the same period, previous year.

Urban retail sales of consumer goods climbed 14.2 percent on year-on-year basis. Retail sales of counties and below county's level gained 13.1 percent and 12.2 percent, respectively. Total clothing retail sales reached more than 750 billion yuan.

In 2006, total per capita income of China's urban household hit 1047.54 yuan, up 14.80 percent over 2005. The per capita disposable income was 964.16 yuan, an increase of 14.26 percent over 2005. However, the rising CPI weakened resident spending power on wearing. Domestic clothing sales development in 2006 was a mode of value-growth. The overall level of consumer prices continued to rise, the price index exceeded 100.

Clothing sales continued to rise in 2006. However, growth rate lessened. Sales value increased by 18.63 percent over 2005, while sales volume swelled 14.95 percent, down 6.37 and 6.45 percent, respectively. Sales prices increased by 3.12 percent over the same period of 2005.
