Official statement by the press department of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality against the groundless allegations regarding Istanbul Municipality's so called ban on swimsuit ads on city billboards:
The document published in some of the press media last week which was claimed to be the proof of the ban against swimsuit adverts in Istanbul, does not reflect the truth.
The document that is presented as “document of ban on swimwork advertisement” at the news can not be defined like that. It is not right to present the answer given to Sunset, the Swimwear Firm, as the “document of ban on swimwork advertisement”.
In accordance with the "article 11 of the Advertisement Regulation" no advertisement material - except the signboards - can be placed to the frontside of the two or more flatted buildings.
The said method in the news is applicable only in case of such places as fixed outdoor advertisement units (billboards, totems, light-boxes and rackets), blind building walls, glass-dressed façades of the buildings (glass graphics) etc...
The subject-matter advertisement in the form of vinyl has not been evaluated with regards to content and image. Such kind of advertisement objects should be placed on areas which are defined in the “Regulation of Advertisement” and stated above. This situation has been expressed in the response which was given to the Company.
The bodies accepting the advertisement submissions evaluate the requests in line with the legal regulations. The advertisements may not be approved due to their inconformity with the technical specifications laid down in regulations.
