Sales of apparel in Japanese chain stores drop in Nov

The sales of apparel at chain stores in Japan declined in November 2018. Apparel sales dropped 12 per cent from the year before to 85,205 million yen ($ 780.73 million) due to warm weather, as per the data compiled by the Japan Chain Stores Association across its 58 firms together comprising 10,387 stores.

Womenswear sales dropped 12.5 per cent to 23,579 million yen ($216.05 million) in November. Sales were positive for items such as formal wear and suits, but negative for jackets, coats and knitwear.

Likewise menswear sales was down by13.4 per cent to 17,974 million yen ($164.70 million) and other types of garments and accessories by 11.0 per cent to 43,652 million yen ($399.98 million). Sales of sweatwear and casual pants were positive, while those of down jackets and coats were negative. (PC)
