The agreement was signed to commemorate International Youth Day, with this year’s theme being ‘Green Skilling for Youth in the Garment Sector’, according to a press release by Swisscontact.
The MoU will allow Swisscontact’s (Progress) project, which focuses on Promoting Green Growth in Ready-Made Garments Through Skills, to facilitate Team Group's platinum-rated green garment factory, 4A Dyeing Ltd, in Dhaka. The intention is to groom workers for manufacturing garments while maintaining green compliances.
The primary aim of this collaboration is to enhance skills and productivity growth, with a particular focus on uplifting women in the RMG sector. The signing also emphasises the commitment to implementing impactful environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives in line with sustainable business practices.
The collaboration is expected to represent an important landmark in advancing green skilling and the application of the industry-based training (IBT) approach within the RMG sector in Bangladesh. The programme, launched in October 2022, aims to enhance job stability, increase earnings through improved skills, and create better working conditions. It also focuses on enhancing productivity, bolstering environmental and social compliance, and consequently improving workplace environments.
Several dignitaries were present at the MoU signing ceremony, reflecting the high importance placed on this collaboration by the involved parties. The partnership signifies a concerted effort to align the country's garment industry with global sustainability standards.
