International Garment Training Centre (IGTC) opened in Ho Chi Minh City today for the improvement of management capacity of Vietnam's garment industry.

The centre, the first of its kind in Vietnam, will focus its training on the areas of production management, marketing and sales, personnel training and enterprises' social responsibility.

The centre is established by joint efforts from 13 garment manufacturers and one equipment supplier in Ho Chi Minh City, in association with the Mekong Private Sector Development Facility (MPDF), the multilateral Sponsor Programme run by the International Financial Company (IFC) and the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Garment, Textile, Embroidery and Knitting.

The MPDF promised to extend technical assistance for three years.

The New Zealand Agency of International Development (NZAID) and Danish International Development Assistance (DANIDA) will provide experts to run the centre.
