Jute industry wants Jute Technology Mission Fund worth Rs450-crore get cleared in the budget.
The Finance Ministry has been discussing the proposal of the fund for months.
Moreover, jute industry hopes that creation of jute board is likely to be included as a major monitoring and promotional body in the budget proposals.
The merger of Jute Manufacturers Development Council with National Council for Jute Development for combined efforts to promote export as well as diversification of jute products may also be considered.
Finance Minister P Chidambaram would make a few strategic announcements on the jute in the budget, said a senior official in the Textile Ministry.
Sources said the Textile Ministry had tried to explain Finance Ministry the importance of implementing this policy, as it would affect 40 million jute farmers and lakhs of workers of east India.
