Angamaly garments cluster having 73 units, plans to go in for expansion of the facility to generate employment for 500 women.
The proposal for expansion is before State Industries Department and is expected to be cleared soon. Angamaly garments cluster has posted good results in its inaugural year.
It was opened with 73 units at an investment of over Rs54 lakhs, conveyed Gracy Thomas, Managing Director of the cluster.
It has a common raw material bank and a common training centre.
The cluster's productions include shirts, churidars and other women and kids' wear.
Major production is sold through local direct market groups, with a portion of it for export.
Good performance of the units can be gauged by the fact that most of the units have been able to repay their bank loans.
Of the total investments, a term loan of Rs. 25 lakhs was taken from the Union Bank of India under a Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) scheme.
A sum of Rs. 5 lakhs was provided as cluster margin money by State Government and the rest as beneficiary contributions.
According to Thomas, the units produced 150 shirts and 25 computer designed saris on a daily basis.
