Traditional folk costume can still be found in some regions of the Czech Republic where folk traditions are still alive, and if your old costume no longer fits, you can turn to professionals to re-stitch it.
A sewing shop has recently opened in South Moravia to make all varieties of traditional wears found in Czech Republic.
South Moravia region is rich in folk traditions in the whole of Czech Republic and many women are masters of the old techniques of embroidery, lacemaking and pleating.
A group of women from village of Blatnicka got together and started work in a former school building with four full-time employees and eight colleagues doing embroidery work with many more women wanting to work from home, said Jana Smutna, Director of the organisation Traditions of Moravian Slovakia.
For remaking of authentic Moravian traditional folk costumes the organization gets inspiration from books describing folk costumes, ethnographers and museums, grannies and aunties who are knowledgeable besides having many videotapes and photos of traditional work.
Jana Smutna and her seamstresses opened a sewing shop having ironing and laundry room on ground floor with an exhibition room in the attic.
Another similar shop is scheduled to open in nearby town of Uhersky Ostroh with two cobblers and a harness maker who will produce all accessories and weaving of original fabrics will be done for stitching those costumes.
