Closure of Ghim Li Fashion (Fiji) Limited, one of the biggest garment factories has had a depressing effect on the production of garment and footwear manufacturing as these two sectors have witnessed a steep drop of 54.9 percent last year compared to 2004.
The production index for garments declined from 315.8 in 2004 to 128.7 last year while footwear went down from 349.6 in 2004 to 329 last year.
However, these statistics do not reveal price changes and are based on representative physical production from each industrial group.
