In January 2006, Vietnam exported high volume of apparel but now they are planning to control them as they fear quota run outs.

Total export turnover of quota controlled garment to the US in Q1 touched US $520.2 million, an increase by 43.9 percent compared to the same period last year, said Trade Ministry.

In total, among apparel export turnover, T-shirts and trousers reported growth of 34 percent and 30 percent, respectively.

Top trading categories in first quarter completed 30 percent of quotas and swimsuits exports was very strong among all top categories accounting 67 percent of the quotas.

Trade Ministry has restricted automatic visas for export of some categories comprising t-shirts and trousers and this decision will be applicable to other categories also if quota volume reaches the threshold set by the Ministry of Trade.
