Restrictions on transforming manufacturing space into offices are to be relaxed at New York's Garment Center because production activities at the center have been greatly reduced.
According to City Planning Commissioner Amanda Burden, officials are inviting various businesses at the center by next month. With manufacturing base having shifted to foreign locales, center has constantly laid off its employees.
Amanda added that the apparel zone, which is the oldest in New York, has decreased in value owing to shortage of investment for its buildings.
City officials are in talks with labour organizations and businessmen to formulate a plan which helps to develop offices and keep manufacturing activities functional simultaneously. But the number of spaces to be converted is fixed.
