A graduate level course was initiated in Dhaka on February 20, 2007 with support from BGMEA Institute of Fashion & Technology (BIFT) and SouthAsia Enterprise Development Facility (SEDF). Purpose of this course is to prepare 200 graduates annually for mid-level management positions in Bangladeshi apparel units.

It is expected that the course will produce graduates with skills and knowledge required to properly manage international garment business.

Of the country's overall exports, nearly 75 percent is accounted by RMG sector which provides employment to more than 2.2 million people. Sector is compelled to recruit foreign professionals owing to shortage of technically adept and qualified management graduates from the local side.

According to BGMEA President S M Fazlul Hoque, course should turn out domestically trained managers who can be employed by garment factories in lieu of foreign professionals, thus saving expenditure.
