Textile industry uses formaldehyde as finishers to make fabrics crease-resistant. But this can create many health hazards. To prevent these, Government has taken some stern steps.

According to new national policy, the manufacturers must print formaldehyde content on the clothing.

The clothing must be sent to local department of National Administration for Quality Inspection for supervision of formaldehyde content.

The Government has set benchmark for limit of formaldehyde content in textile.

Formaldehyde content in textile and clothing for baby must be lower than 20 mg per kg, those directly touch the skin, it should be less than 75 mg per kg, and for other categories scale is 300 mg per kg.
