Textile and garment sector of the nation is upset by the news of arson and looting of 20 export-oriented ready-made garment units and burning of vehicles by some infuriated employees following the death of 7 workers in a recent road accident in Savar.

These garment units are located at Bishmail road, four kilometres away from the location of mishap.

On October 14, two buses with workers met with a head on collision killing 7 workers, opposite Nadi Filling Station in Narsinghapur on the Dhaka-Ashulia highway in Savar.

Though the attack on the export-oriented garment factories was sudden, the businessmen feel that it was an attempt to harm the garment industry. They felt that some leaders instigated workers to lead the attack.

Businessmen have been reported to suffer a total loss of Tk 2 crores from the damage and loot.

During the attack, marauding workers attacked Korean sweater factory, Pickard Bangladesh Ltd, a leather goods producing company, an undertaking of Bangladesh and Germany, and Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd, a drug manufacturing company.
