The Jordanian Labour Ministry has issued a flat denial to approve the restructuring plan of the US-Jordan joint venture clothing company 'Jordache', which permits the company to lay-off workers of Jordanian origin.

According to the ministry, it will not give its approval till the company either shuts down entirely or terminates all the foreign workers employed by them. Earlier, women garment workers had approached the ministry apprehending lay-offs.

Jordache employs around 2,150 workers of which 1,700 are expatriates and the rest local Jordanian people. The company had started relocating its foreign workers to different overseas locations in the last few weeks.

It had also put in an offer to pay three months advance salary to the local workers for signing a voluntary retirement scheme. The local labour unions are protesting the move of the company which has domestic workers working there since the last ten years.
