In order to procure food grains at subsidized rates to the garment factory workers, Karnataka government is planning to provide them Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration cards, said Mr. H Halappa, Minster for food and civil supplies.

It has been estimated that over 400,000 people are working in garment units alone in Bangalore and maximum of them live below poverty line, informed the Minister, who has rejected allegations made by opposition, that the government doesn't distribute ration to BPL card holders.

During government's verification process to weed out ineligible families and bogus cards, just about 6.3 million BPL card holders out of 7.8 million had submitted their photo identity cards, informed the Minister.
