ITALIAN apparel fabric manufacturers, the leading suppliers of high-end fabrics in the world, plan to boost investment in China, which is a market with great opportunity.
Earlier Italy had turned down low-cost Chinese textile products, but now is likely to sell more fabrics to China to make up for losses in its home market.
A major Italian shirting fabric provider, Leggiuno SpA, proposes to establish a representative office in Shanghai next year to increase its exports to China.
Though the current exports of Leggiuno SpA are not significant, the company expected the new office in Shanghai would help in generating emergent market, said Lorenzo Leva, a manager of Leggiuno.
Chinese sales have seen fast growth after the firm established an office in shanghai before three years, said Emrico Barboni, a sales and marketing executive with REDA.
Alessandro Liberatori, an official of textile division in the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade, informed that from the total Italian fabric exports, 10 percent go to China and the quantity is going upward by 2 to 3 percent per year.
