The Maharashtra government has increased the Value Added Tax (VAT) by one per cent on a wide range of goods.
The increase in VAT has been made applicable on 105 goods, ranging from garments to utensils, from the existing level of 4 percent to 5 percent.
The one percent hike will garner estimated revenue of Rs 6 -7 billion for the state's coffers.
The one percent hike, which will come into effect from April 1, includes items like, readymade garments, chemicals, industrial inputs, packing materials, etc.
