In response to the successful mark-up of the Innovation Act of 2013 by the House Judiciary Committee on November 20, 2013, American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) President and CEO Kevin M. Burke said, “Like so many industries across our economy, the U.S. retail, apparel, and footwear industry spends tens of millions of dollars each year combatting frivolous lawsuits perpetuated by patent trolls. It is time to bring this “bounty-hunter” litigation abuse to an end.

“We applaud Chairman Goodlatte and his colleagues on the House Judiciary Committee for their leadership in trying to remove dangerous trolls from our patent system before they can do more damage to American enterprise and innovation.

“At the same time, AAFA looks forward to continuing our efforts to improve key provisions in the Innovation Act of 2013, as well as in the many other legislative initiatives being pursued, to ensure the continued success of the U.S. retail and fashion industry, and our four million U.S. workers in the global market.”
