NRF survey hints at higher Independence Day spending

Sentiments will run high, as patriotic fervor grips USA. According to National Retail Federation 2005 Independence Day Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey, more than 50 million consumers are planning to take advantage of holiday sales and promotions,
With consumer spending on the rise this year, retailers can expect increase in sales over the extended weekend.
Almost half of the shoppers (46.4%) visit discount stores, one-third (32.1%) will go to their favorite department stores and 12.1% will take advantage of online shopping promotions.
In the true July 4 spirit celebration, the survey revealed 64.8 percent Americans owned the flag, 51.8 percent wore patriotic apparel and more than 24.2 million consumers plan to purchase additional patriotic merchandise, this year.
