Benefits of Sourcing In India:
1. It's not China. Now that the EU has initiated a dumping case against all leather shoes from China (and Vietnam), and we can anticipate large punitive duties soon as a result, we should explore other sourcing options.
2. India has some very interesting statistics:
? Second Largest Shoe Producing Country in the world
? Has the world's largest livestock population and a thriving tanning
? Industry (second largest employer in the country)
?16 percent of world footwear production takes place there
? Exports of 92 million pairs
? 75 percent of exports to EU and the US

4. The EU has recently adopted a liberalized GSP policy for India, granting preferential duties on footwear imports.
