Bangladesh is committed to the welfare of all its workers and has undertaken an initiative to ensure their occupational safety, State Minister for Labour and Employment Md Mujibul Haq said in Dhaka on Sunday.

The move is likely to make all workers particularly those employed in the readymade-garment sector safe, he said at a workshop organized by the Labour Ministry adding that an (Occupational Safety Hazard) OSH profile would be formulated.

The key to success in the apparel industry was the health of the workers. Every factory would have a committee to ensure workers' safety and health. The OSH profile would give a clear idea about safety and health of workers, Haq said inaugurating the workshop, according to an agency report.

"No subversion would be tolerated in the apparel industry. No indifference regarding the health of workers would also be tolerated," he added.

He said the government has plans to set up two 300-bed hospitals in Tongi and Narayanganj. (SH)
