The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) recently urged members of Action, Collaboration, Transformation (ACT) to ensure fair price and ethical sourcing of garments taking into account workers' standard and cost of living and inflation.

ACT is a joint initiative between 19 global garment brands and retailers and IndustriALL Global Union to support the development of living wages in the readymade garments (RMG) sector.

"Therefore, we would urge you to engage with global brands, retailers and their representatives, urging them to be more empathetic and rational on pricing and sourcing practices," BGMEA president Faruque Hassan wrote in a reply to ACT, which had sent a letter to BGMEA last week.

BGMEA had been working relentlessly to improve skills and efficiency of workers, Hassan was quoted as saying by domestic media reports.

The Minimum Wage Board for garment workers is reviewing the minimum wages.
