BEPZA signs investment deals worth $12 mn with 2 foreign firms

The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) recently signed a couple of agreements worth about $12 million with two companies— Singapore-Sri Lanka-based MAS Sumantra 2 Private Ltd and Gabo Global Ltd from South Korea. Both the companies would invest in garment manufacturing in Bangladesh, creating more than 3,700 employment opportunities.

BEPZA executive chairman Maj. Gen. Mohammad Nazrul Islam signed the land lease agreements.

MAS Sumantra 2 Private Ltd will set up a garment manufacturing factory in Chattogram Export Processing Zone (EPZ) by investing $7.18 million to produce 28.58 million pieces of intimate garments, especially briefs and bras. It will employ around 2,673.

Gabo Global will establish a garments and camping goods manufacturing factory in Mongla EPZ by investing $4.85 million to produce 2.3 million pieces of woven garments, knitted garments and camping items per annum. Around 1,030 people are expected to be employed there, according to Bangla media reports.

BEPZA has signed investment agreements so far with 12 companies, whose total proposed investment is $125.21 million during the current fiscal.
