Consumer prices for clothing sector rose 0.6 per cent year-on-year (Y/Y) in March 2022 in China, lower than the overall inflation. On a month-on-month basis, clothing sector posted 0.4 per cent inflation last month, according to the data released by National Bureau of Statistics of China. Clothing was among the 6 sectors that posted inflation in March.

The China’s national Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 1.5 per cent year-on-year, during the month. While urban area inflation rose by 1.6 per cent, the rural area inflation rose by 1.2 per cent.

Clothing sector inflation indicates price movement in textiles items. However, lower inflation in clothing compared to overall price rise reflects depressed market sentiments in China due to strict COVID-19 lockdown in Shanghai.
