The Bangladesh Government and employers and workers groups will work towards creation of green jobs and promotion of social dialogue on a priority basis until 2020 in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation (ILO). These areas are part of a decent work country programme (DWCP) for the country agreed to recently in Dhaka by the four stakeholders.

DWCPs are the main vehicles for delivering ILO’s support to countries. Each DWCP is organized around a limited number of priorities and outcomes.

The country’s ministry of labour and employment, the National Coordination Committee for Workers Education (NCCWE), the Bangladesh Employers Federation (BEF) and ILO Bangladesh signed the agreement to initiate the programme, according to an ILO press release.

According to ministry secretary Afroza Khan, Bangladesh had implemented two DWCPs in 2006-2009 and 2012-2015.

The priorities for Bangladesh have been chosen on the basis of participatory assessment of current challenges, including high unemployment rate among youth; high and stagnating income inequality; low productivity in some sectors; slow improvement in occupational safety, health situation and working conditions; and inadequate opportunity for social dialogue in the country, the press release added.
