The European Union (EU) and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) are willing to collaborate with the Nigeria Competitiveness Project (NICOP) to implement Nigeria’s leather products policy, according to the Nigerian ministry of science and technology. The draft strategic plan for leather and leather products policy is awaiting implementation.

The leather industry stands at 40-50 million skins annually, generating between $600 million to $800 million annually, Nigerian media reports quoted minister of science and technology Ogbonnaya Onu as saying.

The leather Industry is strategic in the development of Nigeria’s economy, due to substantial export earnings and value and the enormous employment opportunities it provides.
