India raises daily coverall production capacity to 1 lakh+

India has raised the daily production capacity of coveralls required by medical personnel to more than a lakh, with Bengaluru turning a major production hub with 50 per cent share. Other approved production units are in Tirupur, Chennai, Coimbatore, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Phagwara, Ludhiana, Kusumnagar, Bhiwandi, Dungarpur, Kolkata, Delhi, Noida and Gurugram.

HLL Lifecare Limited is the designated single-window procurement agency for hospitals and healthcare organisations in the country. The cumulative production till date is approximately one million body coverall units, according to an official release.

Four laboratories in the country synthetic blood penetration resistance test facilities as well as necessary approvals for conducting tests and certification for coveralls (PPE) required for COVID-19. These are the South India Textiles Research Association (SITRA), Coimbatore, the Defence Research and Development Establishment (DRDE), Gwalior, and two laboratories under the Ordnance Factory Board—Heavy Vehicles Factory, Avadi and Small Arms Factory, Kanpur.

The PPE kits are being sent to the states by the ministry of health as per requirement, the press release added.
