Japanese sportswear firm Descente ends Q2 with sales of ¥50 bn

Descente Ltd, a Japanese sports clothing and accessories company, has reported a 16.4 per cent sales growth to ¥49.9 billion (Japanese Yen) in the second quarter (Q2) of FY21 ended on September 30, 2021, compared to the sales of ¥42.9 billion in the same period of previous fiscal. Operating income for the first six-month period improved to ¥2.7 billion (Q2 FY20: loss ¥2.4 billion).
 
By segment, the company’s sales from Japan rose to ¥23.1 billion (¥19.6 billion), while South Korean sales went up to ¥24.7 billion (¥21.0 billion). Moreover, sales from China remained stagnant at ¥2.0 billion.
 
Sales of Descente brand during Q2 FY21 increased to ¥7.2 billion (¥5.1 billion), while Le coq sportif's sales were up to ¥5.2 billion ($4.4 billion). Furthermore, Munsingwear sales improved to ¥3.0 billion (¥2.2 billion) and Arena sales totalled to ¥1.9 billion (¥1.2 billion). However, Umbro recorded a minor dip in sales to ¥1.2 billion (¥1.4 billion).
 
According to the Japanese firm, sales from its athletic wear category rose by 9.7 per cent to ¥31.3 billion as the impact of the COVID-19 subsided across the region and sporting events resumed, while golf wear category's sales increased by 29.4 per cent to ¥15.8 billion.
 
Gross profit during the quarter rose to ¥28.6 billion (¥22.9 billion), and profit attributable to the owners of parent increased to ¥2.5 billion (loss: ¥1.2 billion).
