Lidl Hellas, the German supermarket chain's subsidiary in Greece, has announced an investment of €100-120 million for its operations till February 2020. The goal is to have 300 stores across Greece. Two new outlets will be opened in 2019 in Thessaloniki and Larissa, bringing the number of Lidl stores there to 223, said company director Iakovos Andreanidis.

Andreanidis was speaking on the occasion of the multinational's 20 years of operation in Greece.

Lidl has five logistics centres in the country and cooperates with around 3,000 producers there.

The company aims to raise the number of employees to 6,000 from 5,466 now and add 250 product codes, of which roughly half will be Greek products, Greek media reports quoted Andreanidis as saying.

Andreanidis rejected any prospect of Lidl Hellas buying another rival in the domestic supermarket sector. (DS)
