Grameen Knitwear shut over wage hike protests

Grameen Knitwear Ltd, a garment manufacturing unit related to Grameen Bank's founder has been shut after workers protested seeking an increase in wages.

Hundreds of workers belonging to the factory are demanding a 10 percent hike in wages as well as a rise in transport and food allowances.

The garment unit employing about 2,400 workers is located in Savar export processing zone (EPZ) in the suburbs of Dhaka.
