Tesco, one of UK's top retailers with exceeding £37 billion, proposes to increase its sourcing from India to £95 ($165 mn) million next year.

A company representative informed that Tesco sourced goods worth £65 million.

South Indian apparel segment has been the focus for Tesco's sourcing, which attributed to 90 percent.

At present, Bangalore and Tirupur, two major South Indian apparel centres, amount to a large portion of sourcing.

Tirupur knitwear industry, which amounts to 40 percent of Tesco's Indian imports, sells more than four million vests and T-shirts in Tesco stores each year.

Tesco also imports shorts from Bangalore, about four million pieces every year.

Tesco would improve its service centre in Bangalore to enhance its growth plans.

Branded as Hindustan Service Centre, the centre employs 800 persons at present and this number is likely to be increased to meet rising needs of its business across the world.

The shared services centre provides Information Technology (IT) services and business services processing.
