American Apparel, the vertically integrated clothing manufacturer based in downtown Los Angeles, is pleased to announce its role as the exclusive merchandise manufacturer for Made in L.A., an exciting new exhibition organized by the Hammer Museum in collaboration with LAXART and presented by Wells Fargo.
Building upon the tradition of Hammer Invitational exhibitions, Made in L.A. 2012 is the inaugural event of a new biennial exhibition, featuring work by 60 artists with an emphasis on emerging and under-recognized artists. The show will debut an expansive collection of new installations, performances, drawings, films, videos, sculptures, and paintings, created specifically for Made in L.A. 2012.
"I can't describe how excited we are about this collaboration. The opportunity to support artists here at home and celebrate Los Angeles was one we were glad to be a part of. And as a company that has always been 'Made in Downtown L.A.,' it's a chance for us to showcase what we do at our factory every day," said Iris Alonzo, a creative director for American Apparel.
As the merchandise partner, American Apparel collaborated with the Hammer Museum and its artists to design a line of branded merchandise that includes t-shirts, hoodies and kids clothing as well as a limited edition version of the company's Made in USA, L.A.-inspired nail polish. A portion of proceeds from sales will go to support the Hammer Museum.
In addition to selling the Made in L.A. merchandise at its stores and online, American Apparel will be promoting the museum on its billboards across Los Angeles. Select American Apparel locations will feature Made in L.A.-inspired window displays. Made in L.A. and American Apparel merchandise will also be available at the Hammer Museum store.
"Though the Hammer Museum and American Apparel come from seemingly different vantage points, we share a common passion for supporting the people and communities that make up Los Angeles," said Hammer Museum director Ann Philbin. "American Apparel has been great to work with on Made in L.A. 2012 and we are thrilled about this new relationship."
The exhibition will be shown at three locations across the city: the Hammer Museum in Westwood, LAXART in Culver City, and Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park in Los Feliz.
