Adidas Group China, a part of the popular German sports clothing brand Adidas AG, is planning to open over 600 outlets in China this year.

A spokesperson from Adidas Germany told fibre2fashion that the company is planning to open 600 stores across China, out of which around 300 to 350 outlets would be in cities which do not currently have any Adidas store.

The sportswear company will be opening several stores in the lower-tier cities of China, especially in the western and northwestern parts of the country.

Adidas generated revenue of US$ 4.67 billion in the first quarter. The sum got a boost partly because of the increasing demand of Adidas products in China.

Seeing the rising demand for sports goods in China, Adidas has opened over 6,000 stores since 1997. The company expects its global sales to increase by nearly 10 percent by 2012-end.

In 2011, the sportswear market in China was worth US$ 19.57 billion.
