Garment factory owners in Bangladesh are now mulling on the ways for implementation of International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Better Work Programme to develop a good rapport between the management and the workers employed in the garment industry, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) said.

In this regard, BGMEA President Md. Shafiul Islam met Lejo Sibbel, Senior Design Adviser of ILO’s Better Work Programme and discussed effective ways of implementing the programme.

In 2009, the US Department of Labour had urged the Bangladesh Government to implement the ILO’s Better Work Programme.

US reiterated its demand during a visit of a group of Bangladeshi garment entrepreneurs to the US to attend a hearing of the United States Trade Representative for earning duty-free access for their goods in the US under the generalized system of preferences scheme.
