US apparel brand Hollister to debut in Australia

Hollister, the popular American apparel brand, is planning to open its very first outlet in Australia next year.

The label, which is a part of the retail giant Abercrombie & Fitch (A&F), proposes to launch its debut store in a mall-based location in order to test the Australian market prior to opening an international level A&F store.

The brand considers the Australian market to be one of the few foreign markets that still remain hugely unexplored by the fashion sensibilities mirrored by Hollister's product range, which offers affordable and more youth-orientated fashion apparels.

The hip fashion label represents the southern Californian-inspired surfer style garments that include jeans, shirts, footwear and innerwear for both men and women, predominantly for the teens between the ages of 14 and 18.

The decision by Hollister to foray in Australia has come after some global apparel retailers like Zara and TopShop have already opened their stores in Australia.

Experts predict that Hollister’s entry in the Australian market could possibly lead to a tough competition with already established department stores like Myer and David Jones, which offer exclusive access to popular overseas brands and labels to their consumers.

Started in 2000, Hollister operates through a number of stores in the UK, Canada, Germany and China. Last year, the brand clocked annual sales of US$ 1.5 billion and it plans to open 20 more international outlets by 2013.
